Yet more border trouble

There has just been a mass fight along the border between India and China. Unfortunately, the extreme nationalism within China could lead to a majority believing the propaganda. Metaphorically, it is a severe headache for the Indian prime minister, who also has to deal with Pakistan disputing a border very close by. In terms of China, he is doubtlessly aware that the PLA and the PRC government are far less likely to restrain themselves.

My favourite F1 driver of all time, Nelson Piquet , was born on August 17th 1952 in Rio De Janeiro. Like most, he started in go karts. Often racing with him was Roberto Moreno. They had an emotional reunion about 20 years after this photo. Nelson Piquet, having been successful in karts, was advised to move to Europe to compete in other categories in order to start a career in formula one. That and more advice was given by Brazil’s first F1 world champion, Emerson Fittipaldi. Having moved to the UK close to my birth, he completed in British F3 in 1978. While there has more recently been a price war between Opec (more specifically, Saudi Arabia) and Russia, it has recently been diffused. The tension involved in Russia’s dealings with the European Union particularly regarding Nord Stream is at a similar level, although it is somewhat different in nature. However, the main motivation for Russian President Vladimir Putin, that of rebuilding and expanding the Russian empire with himself as a latter-day Tsar, is identical. While the nations of Europe are not confronting Russia in the direct manner in which the Kingdom did, there are still a number factors which have caused concern, which has recently increased. Russia energy pre-history precedes the Soviet Union. The Anniversary of Shame - multiple angles and possibilities, then and now

June 4th is the anniversary of the culmination of a protest movement that had been in place since April. Rather bizarrely, it was the death of senior political figure Hu Yaobang which concentrated the minds of many on the nature of the Peoples' Republic of China.  Deng Xiaoping (left) with Hu Yaobang who had a coincidentally Mao-style haircut. 1989 is also the year in which authoritarianism collapsed in eastern Europe, which can be partially credited to the reforms of Mikhail Gorbachev, whose implied policy of "non-interference" meant that the Soviet army would not be used to suppress the general public or even physically crush them, as had happened in 1968.
